Chicago Chess Initiative
Chess is a game that changes lives inspire someone today!
The Chicago Chess Initiative (CCI) was founded in 2016 to serve as the communication portal for information related to chess activities in the Chicagoland area. Chess will serve as an educational, academic and motivational tool for youth and adults. CCI seeks to provide quarterly events to foster the need of providing chess functions throughout Chicago.
CCI seeks to promote the game of chess as an alternative to negative and violent behavior for young people in Chicago and as a learning tool for adults to increase logical thinking, concentration and emotional intelligence.
CCI envisions goals that will impact participants and spectators of the game of chess. CCI seeks to provide scholastic curriculum through the game of chess, sponsor one major chess event a quarter and serve as an information portal for chess information in the city of Chicago. CCI also hopes to impact 500 people a year including 250 at risk youth and young adults.
We create avenues for chess to be a viable part of Chicago as a sport, an art and a scholastic tool for success. CCI teaches individuals of all ages to learn the game of chess through one on one/group instruction, mentoring participation in tournaments and exposure to titled players. In addition, CCI serves as a positive alternative for teaching troubled youth the benefits of playing chess which include self-confidence, patience, sportsmanship, creativity and self-control.
Chess events are traditionally not hosted on the South and West Side of Chicago. To fill this void, CCI will host annual tournaments, classes and curriculums as a positive option for adults and youth. CCI will target beginners and experts with a special focus of hosting chess events on Chicago’s South Side.
Past events include the:
Chicago Team Chess Open (September 2016)
8 week Chess Curriculum (November-December 2016)
The Speed Chess Open (February 2017)
Chicago Open 5 Week Warm-Up (April 20-May 18, 2017)
